Signs That Your Well Pump Is In Trouble

As a homeowner, it is important to make sure that you are making sure that your well pump is in perfect working order at all times. To help you with this, it is important to make sure that you are learning all that you can about the signs of a troubled well pump.

Lack Of Water

If you go to turn on the sink and notice that there is no water coming out, you might have a well pump problem on your hands. Sure, it might just be a problem with that particular sink, but that is why you will then want to check out the other faucets in the house. If none of them are working, you are most likely looking at a problem with the well pump itself. Well pumps are generally equipped with a fuse that can also cause problems if it suddenly needs to be replaced.

Pump Always Runs

If you are listening to your water pump run constantly, you have a problem. The pump should cycle on and off. The fact that it is always running is not a good sign. It could be something as simple as a bad shutoff switch. Then again, it could be a problem within the motor of the pump. When a pump is running non-stop it is likely to increase your electric bill, as well as wear out the pump motor a lot quicker. Therefore, if the problem is something as simple as having a switch replaced, you will want to tend to it right away.

Low Water Pressure

Just because you have running water does not mean that the well pump is in good shape. If the pressure is low, it could be that the pump is functioning at a lower-than-usual capacity and is therefore unable to pump through a sufficient amount of water. Of course, this could also be an indication that there is a leak somewhere in the tank or in one of the hoses. If the problem is nothing more than a leak, the leak can be fixed, but you might want to go ahead and have the pump itself inspected while there is already work being done. This way, if it looks like the pump is close to the end of its time, you can opt to have it replaced before it totally gives out on you.

As you can see, there are a few things that you will want to keep on the lookout when it comes to well pump problems.
